Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis

A nourishing ingredient, derived from edible sweet almonds rich in fatty acids, sweet almond oil can thoroughly balance and hydrate, promoting skin renewal for more youthful skin. Sweet almond oil naturally contains high levels of Vitamin E that defend skin from environmental stress and UV damage. It is traditionally used to soothe itching and rashes as well as to combat wrinkles and signs of ageing.

Amla Fruit Pulp Oil

Emblica Officinalis

Also known as ‘Indian Gooseberry’, Amla is naturally high in Vitamin C. It has long been used in Ayurveda for anti-ageing and immunity-boosting purposes. Its naturally rich antioxidant content reduces oxidative stress and protects skin from free radical damage.

Apricot Kernel Oil

Prunus Armeniaca

A therapeutic ingredient used to treat dry skin and signs of irritation and ageing, apricot kernel oil is effective in healing blemishes, reducing wrinkles and other signs of skin damage while providing balanced hydration. It can balance and calm Kapha and Vata dosha types. As a quick-absorbing richly emollient antioxidant, apricot is an ideal ingredient for soothing dry, damaged skin.

Arachidyl Alcohol

A waxy substance derived from peanut oil. It is used as a thickening agent and emollient in cosmetics.

Arachidyl Glucoside

Hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic emulsifying agent derived from natural sources such as rapeseed oil.

Ashwagandha Root Extract

Withania Somnifera

Known as Indian ginseng, Ashwagandha is a prized herb in Ayurvedic tradition. Popular thanks to its wide range of health benefits, Ashwagandha is an effective stress reliever and energy restorer. It has anti-ageing and anti-inflammatory properties, meaning it can fight wrinkles and defend the skin against blemishes and breakouts. Ashwagandha can also help even skin tone and balance moisture levels, making it an ideal herb in fighting acne.

Avocado Oil

Persea Gratissima

Rich in unsaturated fats and Vitamin E, avocado oil is a multifaceted emollient ingredient which can repair dry and damaged skin, helping it to retain moisture and fight signs of ageing. The skin-nourishing elements it contains, such as potassium and lecithin, are absorbed readily, boosting cell renewal and contributing to a healthy, invigorated appearance.

Behenyl Alcohol

Derived from vegetable sources such as corn, Behenyl Alcohol is a fatty alcohol used to help soften the skin and improve the texture and consistency of skincare formulations. It is primarily used as an opacifying ingredient, thickener, emollient, and emulsifier to prevent oil and water from separating.

Benzyl Alcohol

Caffeine

Vasoconstrictive properties reduce puffiness by making blood vessels smaller. Diuretic properties help deflate puffiness, increase circulation and minimize dark circles under eyes. Antioxidant benefits reduce photo-aging when skin is exposed to UV light. Diminishes eye-bag appearance.

Calcium Gluconate

Calcium salt from gluconic acid. Used as a skin humectant and conditioning agent in cosmetic formulations.

Caprylic / Capric Triglycerides

A replenishing, softening ingredient, derived from coconuts and rich in fatty acids, this emollient penetrates quickly to condition skin and can repair skin damage as well as help prevent moisture loss.

Cetearyl Alcohol

A plant-derived emulsifying ingredient, used in cosmetics to balance formulations; makes it easier for the skin to absorb beneficial Ayurvedic ingredients.

Cetearyl Olivate

An emulsifying ingredient derived from olive oil, used in cosmetics to balance formulations, facilitates absorption of beneficial Ayurvedic ingredients into skin. Contributes to the indulgent feel of moisturisers and creams.

Citral

Occurs naturally in essential oils.

Citric Acid

An extract naturally derived from citrus fruit juices, citric acid is used to balance the pH levels of products, ensuring they have the right alkaline levels.

Citronellol

Occurs naturally in essential oils.

Coco-Glucoside

Coco Glucoside is a cloudy liquid derived from coconut used to increase viscosity. In addition to thickening skincare formulations, it also conditions and hydrates the skin.

Coconut Alcohol

Derived from coconut, Coconut Alcohol has several uses including as an emollient that softens the skin, as an emulsifier that mixes and stabilises mixtures between liquids (for example, water and oil) and as a surfactant that evenly distributes the product when it is used.

Ectoin

A powerful multifunctional active ingredient that prevents cell damage and provides repair and regeneration for aged, stressed and irritated skin. Anti-pollution and anti-inflammatory, Ectoin is a ‘hydrocortisone-like’ anti-irritant that reduces wrinkles, provides long-term hydration, repairs the skin barrier and offers blue light protection as well as phyto-protection on a cellular level (UV, IR and visible light).

Eugenol

Occurs naturally in essential oils.

Evening Primrose Organic Seed Oil

Oenothera Biennis

A powerful herb with a wide variety of uses in Ayurveda, evening primrose oil is particularly beneficial in skincare, used to slow down signs of skin ageing, increasing skin elasticity and supporting its structure. Its key compound, gamma-linolenic acid, can reduce inflammation and soothe eczema, acne, psoriasis and other skin conditions. As a cooling, nourishing herb, evening primrose is useful in balancing excess Pitta and is valued for its ability to calm the nervous system.

Boswellia Neglecta

Historically valued for its intense and wonderful aroma, frankincense oil is derived from the resin of the frankincense tree. In Ayurveda, frankincense has a cleansing, purifying function that rejuvenates both the mind and the body. Promotes healthy skin by reducing blemishes, minimising large visible pores and boosting skin’s immunity. Encourages the regeneration of healthy cells and can relieve chronic stress, anxiety and fatigue.

Geraniol

Occurs naturally in essential oils.

Gluconolactone

An antioxidant derived from corn, Gluconolactone strengthens and protects the skin barrier. It also neutralises free radicals and helps protect against UV rays and pollution.

Glycerin

Coconut derived, skin-identical and skin-repairing humectant that helps maintain skin’s outer barrier and prevents dryness and scaling. Combined with emollient oils, it becomes an effective moisturiser, locking in moisture and repairing damage, for softer skin.

Glyceryl Behenate

A non-comedogenic ingredient created by combining glycerin and the naturally occurring fatty acid, behenic acid; often used in the formulation of moisturisers and creams as an emulsifying emollient because of its non-pore clogging properties.

Glyceryl Caprylate

A natural thickener of 100% natural origin, made from 100% renewable sources, through the esterification of glycerin from vegetable oil sources and medium chain fatty acids of coconut oil; mild, non-sensitising and non-irritating to skin or eyes.

Gotu Kola Leaf Extract

Centella Asiatica

Gotu Kola is a cooling anti-inflammatory herb which helps fight chronic skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis by repairing damage done to the skin. It has long been valued in Ayurvedic tradition also for its anti-ageing benefits, as it can stimulate collagen production in the skin. Gotu Kola balances all three dosha types, particularly Pitta types, and can also alleviate anxiety and protect against oxidative stresses.

Grapeseed Oil

A lightweight odourless oil obtained from the seeds of the grape plant. Its strong antioxidant and emollient properties make it particularly effective in moisturising and repairing damaged skin tissue.

Green Tea Extract

Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract

Exceptionally rich in Proanthocyanidins (potent antioxidants 20x more powerful than Vitamin C and 50x more powerful than Vitamin E), Camellia Sinensis Leaf is anti-inflammatory, protects skin from UV-induced oxidative damage and from environmental stressors, stabilises collagen, maintains elastin and improves capillary strength.

A plant with many healing Ayurvedic benefits and capable of pacifying all dosha types, jasmine has a beautiful aroma with proven mood-boosting effect, improving energy while also reducing anxiety and stress. This all-rounder can balance moisture levels and increase skin’s elasticity while soothing the mind and body. Natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties can protect the skin and increase its immunity.

Jojoba Seed Oil

Simmondsia Chinensis

A natural source of Vitamin A and E, Jojoba oil can seal in moisture and create an effective barrier to external elements so it is useful to hydrate dry skin. Structurally close to the secretion of sebaceous glands in the skin, Jojoba oil also helps control oily skin because when skin remains well hydrated by the protective layer of the Jojoba liquid wax, the sebaceous glands respond by reducing sebum production. Jojoba oil also has antibacterial properties that help control bacterial growth in the hair follicle so it helps prevent acne. Its anti-inflammatory properties also soothe irritated and sensitive skin. Used in all our exfoliants.

Lactobacillus Ferment

Lactobacillus is a genus of bacteria that is used as a probiotic. It is traditionally used as a natural fermenting agent for use in the production of yogurt, kimchi, sauerkraut, kefir and a variety of other fermented foods. Lactobacillus Ferment acts as a natural broad-spectrum antimicrobial in aqueous products and in oil-in-water emulsions by acidifying the environment and producing antimicrobial peptides called bacteriocins. It also has nutritive skin conditioning benefits and is used in our Kapha exfoliant together with Pineapple Fruit Extract.

Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate

A probiotic ingredient derived from lactobacillus lactis strains, Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate
is designed to block the biochemical processes that lead to melanin production. Capable of reducing hyperpigmentation, thus reducing the appearance of dark circles, it also increases the regenerative capacity of skin.

Valued in Ayurvedic tradition as a heart tonic and aphrodisiac, the lotus seed is considered to be a sacred ingredient. An anti-inflammatory ingredient, it contains zinc and anti-ageing enzymes which can repair damaged or sensitive skin, while soothing and calming the mind. Balances Pitta dosha types and is also beneficial for acne or blemish-prone skin.

Passionflower Seed Oil

A nourishing, indulgent herb which can balance Vata problems and promote skin’s natural defences. An anti-inflammatory with a high concentration of fatty acids, it can also relieve redness and irritation while providing balanced moisture to dry skin. Traditionally, passionflower is often used as a tranquilizing herb to promote relaxation, as it can soothe the body and mind.

Peach Kernel Oil

A quick-absorbing oil that provides fast penetration of nutrients, peach oil is rich in Vitamins B, A, P, E, C and carotenoids. It also contains polyunsaturated fatty acids such as oleic, palmitic and stearic, making it ideal for the care of dry skin and anti-ageing as it helps to restore elasticity, rejuvenate skin and smoothe wrinkles.

Phytic Acid

The salt form of phytic acid is used as a chelating agent which disperses heavy metals that can accumulate in water. This helps with product stability and preservation.

Sesame Seed Oil

With a powerful blend of rich fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, sesame oil is a nourishing and nutritious Ayurvedic ingredient. Often used in Ayurveda as a carrier oil to help the absorption of other essential oils, sesame oil also has many benefits for the skin. Acting as a nourishing natural preservative, sesame oil can balance Vata dosha types. Promotes skin elasticity and helps prevent signs of skin ageing.

Asparagus Racemosus

A popular, prized herb for women, considered in Ayurvedic tradition to be the female equivalent to Ashwagandha, Shatavari’s name in Sanskrit translates as ‘she who possesses one hundred husbands.’ It has long been used as a tonic for female health concerns and as a means of reducing stress and tension. Shatavari also has nutritive and rejuvenative properties for the skin, contributing towards a renewed, youthful appearance.

Sodium Anisate

Sodium Anisate is used in the Ecocert approved Dermasoft 1388 ECO anti-microbial ingredient which acts as a natural preservative in our creams. P-Anisic acid is obtained from the essential oil of the whole basil plant (Ocimum Basilicum) or from the fruit and seeds of Star Anise (Ilicum Verum), both cultivated and harvested in India.

Sodium Benzoate

Food-grade preservative used to prevent growth of bacteria and mould that may be present in the product through exposure to the environment or through user contamination. Sodium benzoate is the sodium salt of benzoic acid. Both benzoic acid and sodium benzoate occur naturally in many fruits and vegetables such as cranberries, prunes, plums, cinnamon, ripe cloves, and apples.

Sodium Citrate

An antioxidant ingredient that can be used to balance pH levels in formulations.

Sodium Gluconate

Derived from plants, Sodium Gluconate is the naturally-occurring sodium salt of gluconic acid and is used as a stabiliser in skincare formulations.

Sodium Hyaluronate

The salt form of Hyaluronic Acid, a powerful hydrating ingredient that works by locking moisture into the skin. Sodium Hyaluronate has a smaller molecular size than Hyaluronic Acid which makes it especially penetrative. It is able to hold more water than any other natural substance – up to 1,000 times its weight in water! As a result, when applied topically it can reach deep down into the dermis to combine with, maintain and attract water. Its effective hydrating properties help boost skin’s elasticity, contributing to smoother, softer skin with decreased wrinkles and a fuller appearance.

Sodium Hydroxide

An alkaline ingredient used in small amounts in skincare products to establish and hold the pH of a product. As the Sodium Hydroxide is used up in the reaction to balance the PH it is not actually present in the final product.

Sodium Levulinate

The salt of levulinic acid, obtained from the cane of the cultivated sugarcane plant, Sodium Anisate is used in the Ecocert approved Dermasoft 1388 ECO anti-microbial ingredient which acts as a natural preservative in our creams.

Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate

A natural source vegetable emulsifier from renewable and sustainable sources used in our exfoliants. ECOcert, Natrue, Cosmos, and Natural Product Association approved. Suitable for people with sensitive skin or allergies.

Sorbitan Olivate

An emulsifying ingredient, used in cosmetics to balance formulations, making it easier for the skin to absorb powerful Ayurvedic ingredients. Contributes to the indulgent feel of our creams.

Squalane

A naturally occurring moisturiser found in vegetable oils, squalane is an easily absorbed emollient ingredient with powerful antioxidant properties.

Sucrose Laurate

Used as an emulsifier, an ingredient with skin conditioning properties.

Sunflower Seed Oil

Ocimum Sanctum

Ayurvedic texts regard it as a pacifying, relaxing herb which helps correct a Kapha imbalance while fighting stress and uplifting both mind and body.
